Communities Uplift You and Empower You

I truly became aware of the power of communities when I started working in England.I had experienced communities before, in France, but rarely within the school system in a way that actively fostered belonging or celebrated individual and collective achievements.
In France, at least during my school years, education felt largely individual. Diplomas arrived by post. There were no graduation ceremonies, no shared milestones marking the end of a journey. Progress was personal, sometimes isolating.
When institutions cultivate belonging
In the UK, I encountered a different philosophy.Morning assemblies were part of school life. Teachers acted as tutors, responsible not only for academic progress but also for students’ emotional wellbeing.
School uniforms created a strong sense of belonging: you represented your school beyond its walls, and your behaviour mattered. Inter-school tournaments reinforced this collective identity. The British system is far from perfect, but it does cultivate a genuine sense of community.
Communities that endure
I spent one year at the University of Bath to complete my PGCE. Twenty-five years later, I am still part of their alumni network. I receive updates, invitations and news. The connection has never faded.
The same is true in Switzerland. I left Aiglon College eighteen years ago, yet I am still included in their alumni community and kept in the loop.
Communities that support transformation
Among the many training programmes I have completed, Neurolanguage Coaching® stands out. It is the only one where the administrative and training teams actively nurture a strong sense of community through ongoing support, free professional development, and networking opportunities.
This is not accidental. Neuroscience shows that learning thrives in environments where people feel safe, supported and connected. Communities enhance motivation, resilience and long-term learning.
Communities work like the brain: they build connections, strengthen networks and create meaning.
Faster alone, further together
Alone, we may move faster. Together, we go further.
In an increasingly fragmented world, choosing your communities is a powerful act. They uplift us, challenge us, inspire us and remind us that learning—and life itself—is a deeply human experience.
What about you? Which communities are you part of? And what role do they play in your life?
